Mandala and Body Map Exercises
The mandala exercise utilizes relaxation and guided meditation to help you access symbols, colors, images that are part of your being and experience.
Feel free to use whatever comes up in your own meditation, or to use something else that inspires you as you begin to create.
Art making of any kind in grief is not about the product, but the entire process. This is not “art therapy” or about interpretation of what you make. The process allows experience of feeling states, thoughts, sensations, and can provide means for reflection, connection, documentation, and self-knowledge as well as allow for curiosity and further exploration.
Click on the file below for a PDF of the mandala exercise, a blank circle, a mandala to color and a blank body outline to help map grief, emotions, sensations and other experiences in the body. You can also just trace a circle from a bowl, a plate, a cup or any other thing that is a circle shape onto the paper or other surface you plan to work with.
