Loss, Grief, & Trauma: The Gift of Full Presence A Two Day Training for Those in the Helping Professions Friday 11/01/2019 & Saturday 11/02/2019 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
This two-day experiential and empirical workshop is for clinicians, therapists, counselors, clergy, health and medical professionals--anyone who supports the bereaved. The ability to be fully present with those in grief is often uncommon in our culture. Join author and licensed therapist Karla Helbert for these two days to begin learning to cultivate this ability skillfully and compassionately. This training, mindful and evidence-based, approaches grief as a natural and normal process, encouraging those in the helping professions to learn ways of supporting the bereaved in compassionate, creative ways.
Attendees will receive an overview of grief and loss, as well as traumatic grief. Learn what defines grief, as well as traumatic grief, and the myriad ways individuals living with traumatic grief are impacted, how we each grieve differently, how family systems can be impacted, ways our culture responds to grief, and how you can support your clients in acute, as well as long-term, grief. Additionally, you will learn ways that a compassionate model of treatment and care, informed by empathy as well as current research, builds bridges to those in pain while also helping you to guard against vicarious trauma. You will gain skills to support yourself as well as your clients in this sacred work.
Friday 11/01/2019 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 11/02/2019 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured." ~ BKS Iyengar
A seven-day, intensive training program taught by researcher Dr. Joanne Cacciatore and yoga therapist Karla Helbert, LPC at Sedona Mago Retreat Center in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. This course is approved for 30 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) for grief and clinical training plus 30 contact hours through Yoga Alliance with a registered YACEP.
The Compassionate Bereavement Care Certification® program explores and extends current evidence based practices in traumatic grief and is based in a non-medicalized, non-pathologizing, mindfulness-based approach. We teach the art of full presence and compassionate counseling informed by recent science (Cacciatore, 2010; Cacciatore & Flint, 2012; Thielman & Cacciatore, 2013; Cacciatore, Thieleman, Killian, & Tavassoli, in press).
The CBC-Y® program combines the above approach with the science and philosophy of yoga. The training is based the novel, empirically tested mindfulness-based intervention of the ATTEND model—combining attunement, trust and touch, egalitarianism, nuance and death education—merged with Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga as well as teachings of the multiple branches of yoga including Jnana, Bhakti, Tantra, Karma, Raja, Hatha, and Japa. We will explore how yoga philosophy and science is reflected in the ATTEND model as well as how yogic science, philosophy and the teachings from various branches of yoga provide tools for both practitioner, provider and the bereaved to be with, surrender to, do with, and integrate grief. You will also learn and experience how the teachings and practices of yoga can ideally support clients enduring traumatic stress. You will discover, through a phenomenological perspective, creativity, ritual, art, service, group and personal practice, the particular efficacy of the various branches of yoga in providing support and psychosocial care to the traumatically bereaved.
