Ho'Oponopono

Ho'Oponopono
Love, Forgiveness, and Gratitude

The Hawaiian practice and concept of Ho’Oponopono means to make things right. This includes making things right with ourselves, with others, and with the Universe. It is a balancing and includes the righting of wrongs. In a sense, it is a re-shaping of Karma we are currently living and also shapes our future Karma. When done with an attitude of pure love, this practice can help heal many injuries done to ourselves or others, as well as those that others have done to us. Forgiveness does not involve anyone but ourselves.

Ho’Oponopono is also an ancient spiritual cleansing and clearing ritual. It reaches the self on all levels mental, emotional, physical and energetic. Ho’Oponopono removes stress and fear, anger and anxiety. The process assists us in being in touch with our inner Divinity and helps us to have a working relationship with that Divine inner nature. When we are in touch with who we truly are, all matters can be set right within. Ho’Oponopono allows for any blemish on our conception of our true wholeness to be erased. Any erroneous thought or action can be cleansed and cleared, and all energies balanced. The process works with our ancestors, including our beloved dead, with living people, animals and with the planet as an organism. When we experience deep love, true forgiveness, genuine gratitude and make amends with ourselves, we can experience this energy from outside ourselves as well.

To practice:

Find a comfortable space. You may wish to practice this in front of your altar or other sacred space. Take a few cleansing breaths, allow your heart and mind to be open.

You can listen to my version of Ho'Oponopono below

Begin to chant or sing:

Ho’Oponopono, ho’oponopono, ho’oponopono, ho’oponopono,
Ho’oponopono, ho’oponopono, ho’oponopono, ho’oponopono.
I am Sorry. I Love You. Please Forgive Me. Thank You.
I am Sorry. I Love You. Please Forgive Me. Thank You.

Repeat until you feel complete with your practice.

Yoga for Grief and Loss  by Karla Helbert

Ho’Oponopono translates literally as, “correction,” or, “to set right.” It is often practiced in a gathering of family or close friends to help work through problems, release anger or grudges, and find forgiveness. The practice calls upon our ancestors for their help and also speaks to our inner Selves. When we chant Ho’Oponopono, we are also asking forgiveness of ourselves, as well as sending love and gratitude to ourselves.
